MEDIA RELEASES Federal Government should commit to Tamworth Equine Centre There has been much speculation over the future of the proposal for a National Equine Centre in Tamworth of recent times, with various parties disagreeing over the location and form that such a Centre should take. Independent Candidate for the electorate of Tamworth Peter Draper has today called on Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson to commit Federal funding to develop a facility capable of hosting National equine events. "There has been considerable debate over whether the Tamworth Showground should be redeveloped to properly cater for major Equine events so as to help Tamworth keep these industry player in the local area," commented Mr Draper. " If Mr Anderson is serious in his intentions to see Tamworth retain it's reputation as the leading regional equine event provider, the time to commit Federal funding to make it happen has arrived." "National Party member for Tamworth Mr Cull has failed to protect the NSW State Governments commitment of $3m secured by Tony Windsor when he was our local member," said Mr Draper. "This issue has been a political football for far too long, and I would like to see the Federal Government make a commitment to Tamworth to support future development within the equine industry." "While some sections of the equine industry may hold concerns over the long term prospects of developing Tamworth Showground for events of National importance, I firmly believe that a such a redevelopment will greatly assist the various organisations make informed decisions that will protect the future of the industry in Tamworth," he concluded.
