MEDIA RELEASES PROBLEMS PERSIST WITH NEW BUS TIMETABLE Issued 9/12/02 While Tamworth Coaches have tried to resolve problems caused by the new bus timetable, Independent Candidate for the electorate of Tamworth Peter Draper is concerned that many students, parents and teachers are still being disadvantaged. Parents and teachers still have concerns regarding the time it takes for many children to get home after school. Teachers duty time has increased significantly, with up to 30 minutes additional supervision required at some schools. Some children now travel significant distances away from their homes as a direct result of the new routes. "I have called on the Transport Department to send a representative to Tamworth to discuss the issues with the school Principals and Tamworth Coaches," said Mr Draper today. " Of twelve primary school I have been in contact with, only two are satisfied with the new arrangements. The other ten are still experiencing problems with the schedule." "I intend calling a meeting as soon as the Transport Department confirms a suitable day that a representative can travel to Tamworth, and I am hoping that it will be later this week," said Mr Draper. "The Principals of the ten schools I have been consulting with have already indicated they would welcome the opportunity to discuss the problems with Tamworth Coaches and the Transport Departments representative. I am sure that they will strongly represent the views of their school communities to the department's representative on how the changes have affected their schools. End Release |
