Tamworth resident Chris Doulis and his wife Christine have secured NSW Government approval to begin operating Sydney’s newest taxi network, VIP Cabs, and they are aiming to significantly improve transport services for the disabled community. Trade students graduate
The first trade students to successfully complete the TAFE NSW Aeroskills training program at the Australasian Pacific Aeronautical College graduated on Saturday, November 26.
Among the group, 14 former apprentices graduated as aircraft engineers.
Other graduates included students from the pre-apprenticeship (Certificate IV in Aeroskills Mechanical) training course and seven school students from the TAFE delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) NSW Board of Studies approved training.
The college was established following the Federal Government’s announcement of funding to provide access to facilities, aircraft, equipment and teaching resources for aspiring aircraft engineers.
Member for Tamworth Peter Draper congratulated apprentice graduates Dan Abra, Jonathon Baldock, Douglas Bollard, Dane Constable, Chebl Damouni, Andrew Dorney, Stewart Hudson, Geoffrey Lockwood, Wade Morris, Daniel Pengelly, Gonzalo San Juan, Aaron Taggert, Matthew Wheatley and David Wren, the pre-apprentice graduates Dionysius Cole, Marcus Cushan, Gregory McFarlane, Mark Anthony Rodriguez, Matthew Sweetman and Geoffrey Stone, and TVET graduates Jon Barnes, Liam Brennan, Mitchell Gill, Mark Hohnke, Paul Johnstone, Chris Swilkes and Stephen Hodge.
He also congratulated Eastern Australia Airlines, BAE Systems, the New England Institute of TAFE, Tamworth Regional Council, the New England North West Area Consultative Committee and the New England North West Regional Development Board for keeping the college going since 2000.

An emergency exercise was staged Friday October 28 on a sidetrack near the Werris Creek Railway Station. The exercise centred on a level crossing accident involving three cars and a train. Initially, emergency services were dealing with three deceased and eight injured but, as events unfolded, it was discovered the train was carrying hazardous materials. The event involved ambulance personnel including an ambulance chaplain, police, fire brigade rescue personnel and members of the brigade’s Hazmat Unit along with the Volunteer Rescue Association. The NSW Minister for Fair Trading, Diane Beamer, dropped into Tamworth on Thursday, 29 September, 2005 to discuss operations, programs and consumer concerns with local Fair Trading staff and the Independent Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper. Ms Beamer is pictured checking compliance of scanning equipment at Coles Supermarket alongside Fair Trading Investigator David Clayton, Mr Draper and service assistant Keira Biddle. The equipment proved to be operating at 100 per cent accuracy. Ms Beamer also gave the thumbs up to 15 New England auto wreckers following the completion of a Fair Trading compliance survey resulted in one penalty notice for minor breaches in relation to record keeping and two cautions. Mr Draper said it was encouraging to see Ms Beamer spending time in the region with this visit her first since taking on the Fair Trading portfolio.

Sibling rivalry has had a positive influence on Loomberah’s Sam and Emma Clifton (at left) who last year represented NSW in hockey with both teams coming away the victors.

The Independent Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper has announced that Citizen Advocacy Northwest would receive $15,000 from the State Government to better assist disabled victims of violent crimes.
Mr Draper said the funding would finance a project run by the Tamworth-based agency which trains volunteers to fill advocacy roles assisting people with intellectual, physical, sensory or neurological disabilities.

Mr Draper was invited by the Tamworth Sports Fund to help launch their fundraiser for young Tamworth district sportsmen and women - the Dummy Spitting Contest - at the 2005 Telstra Country Music Festival Tamworth.
Mr Draper pitted or rather spitted himself against the Federal Member for New England Tony Windsor and a strong field of contenders in an attempt to record the furthest spit on the Peel St spitting field.
