Grey Power Inc Gunnedah, presented State MP Peter Draper with a petition containing 1,364 signatures calling for the introduction of a higher 24 hour police presence in Gunnedah. Grey Power Gunnedah Chair, Geoff Hughes, told Mr Draper that an increase in petty theft, home invasions and assaults dictated the requirement for a higher police presence. Mr Hughes also said that many people felt unsafe on the streets after dark. Mr Draper will present the petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly when Parliament resumes next week. Craig Young was their other prop and they were the Australian schoolboys props that year and Australian props a few years later." "It was an honour to enjoy the company of these Legends of League." |

State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, and Lylea McMahon, Member for Shellharbour and Parliamentary Secretary for Energy and Mining, officially open a new interpretive panel at the Tamworth Powerstation Museum. The opening was held at an event celebrating the 120th anniversary of the 'switching on' of Tamworth Municipal electric street lighting and the 20th birthday of Tamworth Powerstation Museum on Sunday November 10, 2008. Tamworth Regional Council undertook the project with a $5,000 grant under the State Government's Museum Programme. TRC Deputy Mayor Col Murray, TRC GM Glenn Inglis, Maisy Stapelton CEO Museums and Galleries NSW, Matt Patterson Regional GM Country Energy and other guests, volunteers and interested community members attended along with Mr Draper and Ms McMahon, at the event which also saw the Museum's Ron Greer presented with the Tidy Towns Cultural Heritage Award by Tamworth Tidy Towns Committee's Paul Ying. Mr Draper congratulated the museum's volunteers for their dedication keeping the heritage facility open for the general public.
The new interpretive panel consists of a comprehensive timeline of important dates and a brief background on the history of the museum. Richard Wesley, Director Museums and Properties, National Trust of Australia (NSW), was commissioned to research and develop the concept of the panel. Ormsby Kerrins Freeman of Sydney designed the layout. Central Signs, Sydney, manufactured. The work consists of three panels 1mm thick exterior grade Saturn natural anodised aluminium with two colour print on silver background totalling 2500 mm long by 450 mm high. |

"I'll kid the folk back home that I've taken on a whole new role in life," he joked. "Not only are the names the same our street number back home is 13, the same as your office," he said. |

"I have presented each of the schools with the book 'Australia’s First Parliament' and those that required it also received a NSW State flag. I commend the teachers, parents and staff who care so much about providing children with a very high level of quality education opportunities.
"Small schools are very special places indeed. ‘Healthy Harold' and the North West Life Education van, were visiting Curlewis Public on the same day as I and, as Patron of the organisation, I was pleased to catch up with the team who do such a fine job educating our kids on healthy lifestyles."

On Friday August 1, Independent State MP, Peter Draper visited members of the Caroona Coal Action Group (CCAG), at their blockade, for an update on the campaign. Mr Draper received a report from CCAG’s Tim Duddy on his attendance at the NSW Farmers Association Conference and is pleased they have thrown support behind local farmers. Mr Draper said it was also encouraging that the Australian Farmers Fighting Fund was looking at pursuing the Caroona farmers' case. |

Independent State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, was a proud dad when his son Ben joined him as part of the Mayor's XI for the annual Tamworth vs Country Stars cricket match fund raiser. On the day the CM stars proved the better team although local charities were the winners with over $4,000 raised.
Peter and Ben took two wickets each and were given the daunting task of opening the batting with Ben scoring 1 and Peter 8. |
