"Getting a team on the field is a very expensive business, so I congratulate Troy Johnson, Guy Greenwood and the other McDonald's franchisees across the region for giving these budding sports stars such valuable assistance," Mr Draper said. Mr Draper said he was particularly pleased that McDonald's had announced they would be helping such teams in small communities like Manilla and Barraba, even though such towns didn't have franchises. "It's great to think all our communities have the chance to benefit from this very sporting support," he said.

State MP and Dungowan Rugby League Football Club Publicity Officer, Peter Draper, has congratulated Tamworth Rural (formerly Tamworth Co Op) for continuing their support of local sporting organisations by becoming the Dungowan Cowboys major sponsor for the 2009 season.

Cowboys representatives met with staff from Tamworth Rural at their premises to inspect the clubs new 2009 jerseys. Official Opening Werris Creek Library

Independent State MP, Peter Draper, was very pleased to attend the official opening of Werris Creek's new library.

"Libraries are one of the most important assets in country communities, and it is impressive to see what Liverpool Plains Shire Council has been able to achieve with the State Government's library fund contribution of $200,000 towards the project."

Mr Draper also congratulated Whitehaven Coal for their welcome investment, and also the Werris Creek Lions Club for their strong support for the project.

Governor visits Conservatorium

Apart from officially opening Tamworth's Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre on Saturday, NSW Governor Marie Bashir and her husband Sir Nicholas Shehadie spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music (TRCM).

NSW Minister for Water, Rural Affairs and Regional Development, Phil Costa Visits Tamworth Electorate

State Water Minister Phil Costa visited Tamworth at State MP Peter Draper's invitation. He met with representatives of Namoi Water, Namoi CMA, State Water, Tamworth Regional Council, Peel Valley and Cockburn Water Users (pictured) to discuss the development of a water sharing plan for the Peel Valley.

This is a necessary step towards obtaining Federal Government support for the augmentation of Chaffey Dam. Minister Costa also announced the formation of a community group to help steer the development of a water-sharing plan in conjunction with the Department of Water and Energy and appointed Mr Draper as chair of this group.

Curated by Valerie Kirk, Head of Textiles, ANU Canberra, it showcases the work of 25 artists from across Australia. The exhibition provides audiences with access to the finest and most exploratory aspects of contemporary fibre textile practice. The exhibition will leave Tamworth on a national tour in March. Grey Power Inc Gunnedah, presented State MP Peter Draper with a petition containing 1,364 signatures calling for the introduction of a higher 24 hour police presence in Gunnedah. Grey Power Gunnedah Chair, Geoff Hughes, told Mr Draper that an increase in petty theft, home invasions and assaults dictated the requirement for a higher police presence. Mr Hughes also said that many people felt unsafe on the streets after dark. Mr Draper will present the petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly when Parliament resumes next week. Mr Draper said, "I had a yarn with Royce Ayliffe and reminded him the last time we met was in 1973 or 74 (we could not remember). He was the prop for Keira Boys High and they thumped us (Kiama High) 64 to 4. Royce dragged me about 15 yards to score a try. He reckons it was the only try he scored all year!! Craig Young was their other prop and they were the Australian schoolboys props that year and Australian props a few years later." "It was an honour to enjoy the company of these Legends of League."
 

State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, and Lylea McMahon, Member for Shellharbour and Parliamentary Secretary for Energy and Mining, officially open a new interpretive panel at the Tamworth Powerstation Museum. The opening was held at an event celebrating the 120th anniversary of the 'switching on' of Tamworth Municipal electric street lighting and the 20th birthday of Tamworth Powerstation Museum on Sunday November 10, 2008. Tamworth Regional Council undertook the project with a $5,000 grant under the State Government's Museum Programme. TRC Deputy Mayor Col Murray, TRC GM Glenn Inglis, Maisy Stapelton CEO Museums and Galleries NSW, Matt Patterson Regional GM Country Energy and other guests, volunteers and interested community members attended along with Mr Draper and Ms McMahon, at the event which also saw the Museum's Ron Greer presented with the Tidy Towns Cultural Heritage Award by Tamworth Tidy Towns Committee's Paul Ying. Mr Draper congratulated the museum's volunteers for their dedication keeping the heritage facility open for the general public.

The new interpretive panel consists of a comprehensive timeline of important dates and a brief background on the history of the museum. Richard Wesley, Director Museums and Properties, National Trust of Australia (NSW), was commissioned to research and develop the concept of the panel. Ormsby Kerrins Freeman of Sydney designed the layout. Central Signs, Sydney, manufactured. The work consists of three panels 1mm thick exterior grade Saturn natural anodised aluminium with two colour print on silver background totalling 2500 mm long by 450 mm high.

Peter Donald Draper and his wife Margaret, from Tamworth in England, are currently holidaying in Australia and as part of the trip paid a visit to 'our Tamworth'. "I'd love to get a photo of Marg and me with your electorate office sign," he told the staff in 'our PD's' electorate office. Happy to oblige. "I'll kid the folk back home that I've taken on a whole new role in life," he joked. "Not only are the names the same our street number back home is 13, the same as your office," he said. Local State MP, Peter Draper, met with NSW Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly, to discuss the manner in which a $50,000 grant was provided to Gunnedah Showground Committee to help build new amenities. State MP Peter Draper has been visiting a number of our smaller public schools recently, including Curlewis, Bendemeer, Carroll and Somerton.

"I have presented each of the schools with the book 'Australia’s First Parliament' and those that required it also received a NSW State flag. I commend the teachers, parents and staff who care so much about providing children with a very high level of quality education opportunities.

"Small schools are very special places indeed. ‘Healthy Harold' and the North West Life Education van, were visiting Curlewis Public on the same day as I and, as Patron of the organisation, I was pleased to catch up with the team who do such a fine job educating our kids on healthy lifestyles."

Mr Draper spent Wednesday talking with local stakeholders about the future of this precious food bowel. Mr Draper said he was looking forward to the resumption of parliament next week when the question of certainty for farmers about their future operations,the protection of this valuable environment and the need for an independent assessment of possible impacts to water aquifers would be at the top of his agenda.

State MP, Peter Draper, joined NSW Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Paul Lynch, at the launch of the Tamworth Job Compacts Programme. The Job Compact is designed to build Aboriginal Employment and encourage young school leavers to get into jobs and training. Minister Lynch also attended the launch of the Birrelee Gamilaraay Language DVD, a project which attracted $15,000 of State funding and announced $7,000 funding to support the 2009 Aboriginal Talent Showcase, at the Country Music Festival.

The new office provides a home for JIRT to combine Police criminal investigation with the DoCs risk assessment and Health forensic medical and therapeutic services members, under one roof. JIRT work as a single unit to investigate the most serious reports of child abuse and related criminal offences. The Tamworth JIRT office covers the area from Singleton to Guyra and from Nowendoc to Boggabri.

State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, joined members of Tamworth's Scouting Community, at Oxley Lookout, on Friday morning (August 1), to help celebrate the 100 year Anniversary Celebration of Scouting in Australia.
As part of the 100 year Anniversary Celebration, Scouts Australia has asked each of its Groups to nominate 10 Organizations or special people who have supported them over the years to receive a special issue Scout Scarf. Local recipients are pictured at Oxley Lookout, during the special 100 year Anniversary Celebration.
On Friday August 1, Independent State MP, Peter Draper visited members of the Caroona Coal Action Group (CCAG), at their blockade, for an update on the campaign. Mr Draper received a report from CCAG’s Tim Duddy on his attendance at the NSW Farmers Association Conference and is pleased they have thrown support behind local farmers. Mr Draper said it was also encouraging that the Australian Farmers Fighting Fund was looking at pursuing the Caroona farmers' case.
The NSW Parliament's winter recess allows more time for local MPs to visit their various communities. Independent State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, has been making the most of these opportunities. In Boggabri, to meet with constituents, Peter also caught up with Noreen Boehm (Co-ordinator Boggabri Home and Community Care) and other locals at the "Over The Fence" information day, held in the main street.

Independent State Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, was a proud dad when his son Ben joined him as part of the Mayor's XI for the annual Tamworth vs Country Stars cricket match fund raiser. On the day the CM stars proved the better team although local charities were the winners with over $4,000 raised.
Peter and Ben took two wickets each and were given the daunting task of opening the batting with Ben scoring 1 and Peter 8.
